I think it is only fair that i give Cyclesphere cycles the opportunity to respond to this question...before i make any further comments.

They have contacted me on numerous occasion to notify that there is no stock of the pedals and when it went back for the 30 day check...Greg did notice there were no pedals on the bike and made a point of escalating the query.

What pedals are you waiting for?

Surely it cant be the stock ones that you are waiting for?

bike doesn't come with pedals you need to buy your own. Unless you are waiting for a specific set?

Well that is what I was wondering, and if it does come with pedals then they are normally those horrible beartrap/shin biters/throw away things.

I bought my Giant Anthem X1 27.5 2014 model from Cajees 4 weeks ago for R23.5K

I got a scott hardtail 940 but there is just nothing that can beat the Giant.

No response...

I understand that pedals do not come with the bike...hence the reason i made a point of requesting certain items be added to the sale agreement for the amount of money exchanged...i have been using pedals off one of my other bikes.

Giant anthem complete...to include the following items...(for anyone new to bicycle purchases take note of comments in this thread make sure you understand what to expect for the money you outlay)

shimano trail pedals (Would be nice to have xtr but considering the bike is made up of slx and xt components...xt would be acceptable but quite honestly at this point in time any pedals would do...3 months later...lesson learnt)

kashima shock (which was already fitted to the bike)

ergo gp2 grips (which were fitted before collection)

I am told that there is not stock of Shimano trail pedals in the country...or should i say shimano havent had stock of these pedals in the past 3 months....this why i have not made a fuss about it...but 3 months is getting a little over the top...it took 2 weeks to order and collect my new pedals for my other bike.

Ahh that makes more sense now. I always move pedals from one bike to then next, I like to be comfortable with them from the start.

Can I ask why you are going for the trails?

Personally I dont see the advantage as the soles of your shoes would be where the stiffness comes from and the extra cage would surely just add weight and grab mud.

As a beginner...i spend a lot of time out the pedals...i find clipping back into the normal ones a little more difficult...with the bigger platform it seems easier and if i dont clip in straight away i just put the middle of the shoe on the pedal...get going then clip in....i also found when i bump things my foot doesn't unclip as often....i ride with the pedal adjustment as loose as possible...the weight doesn't bother me...if i want to make my ride a litter lighter...i just need to loose another 20 kg around my gut [emoji12]

I learnt a few things at the start of the hill2hill 45 km...not a good place to get a puncture in a tubeless tyre...minutes before the start...having a screw on bomb adaptor and a removable valve not smart...trying to use a pump...not smart...being prepared for most challenges...smart idea...carrying a small pliers...smart idea...have a couple people jump in to assist...thumbs up to them... thanks.

Shimano trail pedals are awesome. I bought a set of XTR Trails on a CWC special. Feeling much more planted on the bike than on normal SPDs, eggbeaters and Candys that I had before. I use slightly flexible soled Shimano bike shoes because easier for portaging when I go exploring.

They make tons of sense if your soles arent completely rigid.

Im probably just thinking from my personal setup of fully rigid soles and so they wouldnt really make much difference to me.

Just some info...

a 2014 Anthem x cost me around 21k, the 2015 was 23 got a quote yesterday on the 2016....31k! ZAR/USD is knocking bike prices.

Oh and these prices are from a dealer I know and obviously below RRP, so expect other dealers to come in at around 35-37K.
