Any one else suffer from this? I read some articles and it seems very common. In my case it isn't dehydration but I generally get it if I ride for longer than an hour or so. Not heat because I get it in the cold and night rides too.

Headache is like a throbing migraine.

Any one have a trick to avoid this? Or what do you guys do to overcome it? I would love to hear from all you "docs" out there.

Could be shoulder tension referring to neck and head area?

Is your set-up / position okay?

Do you do upper body strength training to improve your stability on the bike?

Do you use electrolytes as part of your refueling?

I normally get this after a longer ride, normally when I've gone too hard. Temperature doesn't make a difference but effort does.

I drink as much water as possible after my ride and for the rest of the day. Also PPP two mybulen and its sorts me right out. Not sure it's the healthiest solution but it works.

I do have a bad shoulder from a fall 2 years ago perhaps that might be an issue but wouldn't this affect all my rides? I ride with 32gi endurance and water.i also go to gym 5 times a week and do weight training as well as spinning.

I have to eventually take tablets as well to make it go away but I would like to get to the cause. I would like to do J2c or Epic next year but don't think I could handle the headache every day.

I used to get terrible headaches after long road rides, caused by the tension in my shoulders. I went for a bike set-up and they helped determine the cause. My stem was too long and my handle bars too wide, causing me to be stretched out and using my neck muscles excessively to keep my head upright, which would then lead to the strain.

Have you had a proper bike set-up?

Are you a smoker? I found I got them when I was smoking but since I quit they have gone away.

Nope not a smoker, never smoked before either.

When I bought my bike they did the setup but perhaps going to a proper place to get it checked out might help. It can't hurt anything but the pocket I guess.

I used to get headaches after all rides. Then one day I stopped for coffee half way through. No headache that afternoon.  :D

Then I learnt that caffeine raises blood pressure, the cause of headaches seems to be the sudden drop in blood pressure after rides. I suffer from low blood pressure in general...

Now I take drinks with caffeine, and coffee before a race/ride. I do not drink coffee in general.

I swear by cyclefit. It only becomes expensive if you buy upgrades for your bike. But they are very honest about nice to haves and crucial upgrades/changes. Definitely give them a go.

I find the set-up at the bike shop to sometimes be a bit slap-dash. I also went to Cyclefit, great service, great people and nice to get a proper cleat set-up done too. Well worth it, in my opinion...
