Hi , I'm planning on building a Fixie . Never built a bike before , can anyone tell me where would be the best place to source parts for this build . Please note that I'm totally new to this and would like to keep the build as cheap as possible . I'm attaching what I have and what I would like to build . Thanks in advance

First make sure that you understand the difference between a Fixie and Single Speed, so that you collect the right parts. Start with the basics like seatpost, saddle, brakes and crankset. Lots of these can be bought here for good prices. Unless you have a biggish budget, strip the frame yourself with Plascon Removall and consider having it powder coated as it's cheap and fairly durable. Those deep section wheels will be your most expensive parts. Enjoy the project.

You should be able to build it up for fairly little!

Don't rush the build!

Best place for parts will be Whippet cycles in maboneng just East of the cbd

2nd option is Hunter cycles!

Ameil at whippet is always great help and won't rip you off and gives sound advice.

I'd recommend picking up a flip flop hub from him.

My build Cost me only 1200.

In my opinion that's peanuts. And I sourced most parts off the hub.

Hello

I have also had a look around and I know that a new flip flop wheel set can cost you around R2950 and the cranks are R1100.

But there are easier ways of building an awesome single speed. There are some great second hand parts out there. A new retro style handle bar is R900, I bought an old one for R200. I even have some great breaks I took off an old Peugeot.

If you want to get in touch, let me know and we can have a look. There are so many cool ways of making the bike unique and awesome.

I built one up bit by bit and didnt turn out too well. My fault partly. But i got a crankset bottom bracket and rear wheel for 1800 off ebay from eighthinch. They are super good still ride it everyday to school.
