Hi Hubbers,

Quick question:

Is it possible to fit 2.25 Maxxis onto standard Giant PXC rims for a 2012 26" Trance?

I ask because I struggled unsuccessfully to do so and it occurred to me that perhaps the rims are too narrow.

Cheers.

Should be possible, my Anthem came with 2.25 Schwalbe tyres (non snakeskin) and the PXC2 rims. Have since changed but that was what it rolled out the shop with.

Was 29er though

What part did you struggle with?

Getting the tyre to stay inside the rim. Unlike the standard tyre, it kept popping out unless held in directly. I'm encouraged by your experience and will have a proper go tomorrow just before watching the game. That should get me in the right mood...

Are they 26" tyres

Maybe you have accidentally purchased 27.5"  :whistling:

You might be onto something there...

I've had a couple of Maxxis tires in 26 and 650b and they have always been tighter to fit than other brands...

does it pop off when you try to inflate it?

Thanks for all the replies. I wondered about the size and they are definitely 26". The problem is the width of the tyre, not the diameter. .

Droo, I'm not using any rim strip and am using tubes with a liner. Could that be the problem?

What happens is that compared to a 2.00 tyre, I have to hold the beads in to the rim and then try to work my way around the cirumference, popping the tyre into the rim. But it just pops out again as compared to the narrower tyre, which stayed put.

Then I don't know. If you get a chance, bring it in sometime today and I'll check it out.

Are the tires new.

If not could it not be a snapped/broken bead that is loose in the tire rubber casing that has stretched making the inner diameter of the bead bigger. My 2 cents.

That's it. ..And to stay there. Why couldn't I put it like that?

All tyres are different, you will struggle with some more than others. I got so frustrated onec I just asked someone to hold it in place for me while I pulled over the rest with a tyre lever. If you are using tubes. pump them up ever so slightly so they kinda rest in the tyre and not lay on the rim. When you use the tyre lever to pull the tyre over especially the very last bit, you may just pinch the tube. Nothing worse than eventually getting the tyre on only to realise that you damaged your tube in the process
