arabsandals Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Hi all After spending a little time looking at posts it seems that people on the hub don't like Avids. I have had no problems with mine and I'm not (currently) considering replacing them with anything else. Unfortunately, when taking my bike out of the back of my car recently, I pulled the front brake while the wheel was out and the pistons pooped out and wouldn't go back into position. There is no resistance on the lever anymore. Tried to pry apart with the pads using a flathead screwdriver in but absolutely nothing happened. Managed to get the pads out but one of the pistons is totally stuck. It also seems to have a small chip and crack. I assume I have to replace it. Chainreaction has a piston replacement kit. With shipping comes to around R260. Is this something I could do myself or should I check the bike into my LBS (I am not massively handy but can follow instructions and have some tools with access to more if required).

David Marshall Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 The service kit is cheaper locally - my last cost was around R200. Not difficult to do but not my favourite job - messy due to the brake fluid - and I just hate bleeding the Avids!
