Garmin Virb vs Drift HD Ghost vs GoPro Hero

Hi Guys

During MTB rides I have been using cameras to record the rides so that I can go through them afterwards and laugh at my friends and me when someone falls and well as track days at Zwartkops (will be mounted outside the car). The cameras that I'm currently using are really not that good as the picture and sound quality isn't the best. Along with that the cameras on average last max 1 hour 45 minutes.

So to fix this I have been looking at 3 cameras, namely the Garmin Virb (Maybe the Elite), the Drift HD Ghost (Maybe the Ghost S) or the GoPro Hero.

All these cameras seem to be in a similar price range and they all seem to have similar specs with regards to resolutions and FPS.

I have been leaning towards the Virb as this supports ANT+, meaning I will be able to connect my Garmin heart rate and cadence sensor to the camera and this will be embedded into the videos. If I get the Virb Elite, I will then be able to add a map and things like elevation to the video as well. With the Virb Elites on board GPS, the camera will turn off when the rider has stopped for a certain time period and then restart when it picks up activity (same as the stop start tech in the bike gps). waterproof without case up to 1 m for 30 minutes.

The research all started with the Drift HD Ghost (as a friend is selling he's). Usually this camera comes with a remote, which can be attached to your arm, allowing you to start and stop recording on the fly which in theory would mean that the battery could last longer as its not continuously recording (unfortunately the camera my friend is selling doesn't come with this). Waterproof without case up to 3 m.

With the GoPro, I haven't actually found any reason to get this over the other 2 as i don't see any benefits and don't really like the look of this camera.

All these cameras come with WIFI and smartphone apps allowing you to config the cameras and can be used as a viewfinder.

Any views on the camera list above will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
