Hi guys

I've recently taken up mountain biking, started around 3 months ago and i have really taken to it.

I decided I wanted to get a dual suspension now, so I've spotted a Giant Trance x2 2010 and I'm keen on getting it, but since I'm new to this game I have no clue what an appropriate price would be to pay for this?

This may be a long shot, but can anybody maybe give me a ballpark figure?

Thanks

Hi there Kirst0492

Always a tricky one to answer, What condition are the components, same to be asked of the shocks, these can cost a small fortune to get the bike up to scratch, but if all is in a "hit the trail now condition" I would look at about 10k/12k It has some good components, it is full Sus, but still 26" and 5 yrs old....

Hope my opinion helps

Oh gosh so roughly what do u think a service on shocks would cost, just so I know what I'm getting into when I get a dual sus?

From the looks of it, it's all deore xt

And the rear shock is a fox float rp2

The front shock is a fox f series RL

Thank you for your opinion, needed to get a rough idea

You need to have the front fork properly checked out - if the previous owner serviced it regularly it should be ok but if not then you could be in for some very expensive repairs ( to replace front stanchions - silver down tubes will cost you R4000 plus). The geometry of the Trance changed from 2011 - an easier ride so you do not want to be paying too much on a 2010 model - less than R10k. All Trances have good components unless the owner changed it. Remember the lifetime warantee on the frame only applies to the 1st owner.

I'm sure someone on the hub in your area would be willing to have a look at the bike for you.

The only way to check the fork is if a service techy has a look at it.

Hi Kirst0492

Welcome to the Hub!

My advice would be ask the person you want to purchase the Trance from if they wouldn't mind having a mechanic at a reputable lbs look at the bike ito the condition of the fork and shock. A quick ride around the block should tell you if everything else is ok. Personally I wouldn't pay more than 8k for it and only if everything is in top nick.

My 2c's, hope that helps.

Thanks for all the advice, had a guy take a look at the bike needs a service and possible the rear shock needs to be serviced as well, but I'm happy to say that the cost of the bike as well as the servicing is going to work out perfectly! Getting a really good deal here I think!

Appreciate all the help and welcoming me onto the hub

Just keep in mind that there is a big difference between a 'really good deal' and a 'too good to be true', hopefully it is the former.
