Hey guys, I'm brand new to the budgie smuggle but would like to hook up with a midweek group that's averages around 25kph. Even if it's just another one or two riders. Anybody that comes through this area?

Hi Guys,

I sometimes ride during the week in the afternoon from abt 4:45.I start on Davidson Street in Fairlands and then ride up to the water tower and back down the other side of the hill, then back home.Takes me abt an hour.I have a MTB though.

How's the traffic at that time? I'm still a bit paranoid on the road bike.

So this is one route I was considering, possibly meeting at the Bram Fisher BP or the Northcliff Engen. Route is 30km and quite hilly but I'd be prepared to compromise for the sake of group enjoyment. Not sure what other people are looking for. I'd ideally like to get about five of us together, pace set by the slowest.

If you wait on the corner of Milner and Beyers from 5:15 onwards you can tag along with the Engen groups. Route roughly as follows:

Milner left into John Adamson

Across Beyers up to Botanical

Left into Thomas Bowler

Across dam (or detour round it, depending)

Into Gleneagles

Right onto Greenway

Past Parkview Golf

Up Wicklow

Left into Westcliff

Right into Jan Smuts

Left in St. Andrews

Left Oxford

Follow Oxford, becomes Rivonia

Left at Sandton City into Sandton Drive (make sure your brakes work)

Right into William Nicol or straight over into Hurlingham and back with Conrad etc

Else left into Republic and left again at Braam Fischer and back home

Faster and slower groups. Will get busy soon with 947 coming up.

Thanks, jcza. I'm not totally au fait with roadie ettiquette yes so wasn't sure if it was an accepted thing to simply tag onto another group. Thanks for the info.

Dont stress about them unwritten rules. Perfectly ok to tag along especially to get used to the route. Tues & Thurs normally race days. Wed & Fri chilled with slight variations in route. You will find a group that suits your pace.

There are plenty - just go hang out on the top of Northcliff hill at 6am.... they will find you...

I'm keen to give it a go. What time were you thinking? And which days?

Hi everyone,

Is a group for the Northcliff/Quellerina area established yet? I'm also interested in riding to the cradle on Saturdays but won't go alone.

A Whatsapp group sounds like a great idea.
