Anyone else cruise the crater this past weekend?

I did the 118km route, really enjoyed the day out. Mild weather helped. Most of the route is off road now, and that last ascent and tasty downhill was open to all (previously had a cut off). Probably my 8th or 9th time, Last year I did the 80k, that was unsatisfactory most of it was on roads, so gave it horns this year on the full "ultra"  monty, came home in just under 8 hours.

Too bad it overlapped with that other event in MP, why couldn't they co-ordinate dates? Pathetic given that this event was part of their calender last year.  Not that I minded the small field and certainly didn't miss the pro hype or VIP tent, but I hope the event survives the downsizing, It's one of our gems imo.

Great bush ride through a stunning World Heritage site. Water points were decidedly down-key from previous years (not that I needed them) though the last one was a great: A Coke met eish, oh yeah... that's all I ask for.

Also did the Ultra . Really enjoyed the new route . About 15 kays or so of tar and district road to warm up the legs and seperate the bunches a bit , and then very nice jeep and single track with really beautiful scenery . There was a lot less corrugation and dust this year and the weather was great for cycling .Even the singletrack next to the river was nice and firm and lekke flowing . I started a bit fast , so k@kked off in the last 20 days . Climbed 1340 m , so not such a flat race . Did the 12 kay with my youngest daughter ( her first ever race ) the Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed that too !

Yes is a stunning area, I was a regular at Dirtmax, so know that road well. Its all about pace on the long rides, and I am certainly not in top shape (done about 2 events this year in total) but I managed to finish fairly strong. That long drag up to the finish always takes it out of me.

It was the 2nd last water point I was talking about, the last one always has some blaring music which sends me packing up Sorry hill.

Also did the long one . It's now truly a mtb race , great challenge . On Sunday took the boys on the 35km , one with me on the tandem and the older one (14yrs) on his own bike. That was the highlight of the whole weekend .

did the long one with my wife... had flu or the start of it....

i suffered through eventually finishing in 7:40

really great mtb race, not just dirt roads

only complaint is that stupid loopy section before sorry hill.... rather let us just ride straight to the water point they can keep the extra km going up and round...

Did the 80km on the fatty. Not too hard or technical, long stretches of gravel roads. Not as corrugated as previous years. Finished in 3:24. Stopped to help a school girl with a flat just after "Sorry". Everyone just rode past and there was still about 7km to the finish for her to walk.

Ja, what was that stupid moto x track for? Not funny at that stage of the race .

ja its wasnt fun... seems like it was there just to test our patience...

I read that that Quad track was supposed to be closed / off the route after 1pm,  it wasn't but I bypassed it anyway, last year found it very annoying and pointless.
