Carbon rim repair?

So here is the thing. I have outsourced a number of carbon frames for repair. From my sailing experience and having worked extensivly with epoxies myself I would trust that any of the repairs are as strong or stronger than the original - to the extent that I would without qualm chase the racing Vets down Hekpoort on a repaired frame– speed bumps and all.

But what of wheels? In my time at Yellowsaddle and now in my own workshop I have come across a number of repaired wheels – and have never been able to successfully true one. The repair may have been strong but the wheel basically worthless.

Has anyone had a successfully repaired carbon rim? ie. as good as new in terms of trueness and remaining true?

I ask the question as a customer was offered a set with a repair which I dissmissed out of hand. He felt I ahould at least have looked at them. My opinion, unless I stand corrected, is good money after bad.

Depends on the severity of the damage and the quality of the wheel in the first place.

I have had a Dura Ace C50 repaired where there was a tiny crack vertically the length of the brake surface and it is perfect. I must mention that even with the crack the wheel remained perfectly true.

I think a crack is easier to fix and keep the rim true as appose to a melted rim due to a vehicle exhaust where the resin has melted and then hardened in a different shape.

Give me a shout and I'll put you in touch with a mate who does carbon repair for a living.

I have a cracked 29er MTB front rim that you can try and get repaired and then try true.

I'll cover the repair costs...

Was told by the LBS that they wouldn't repair it...and I'd rather not face plant due to a dodgy repairer, but if the workmanship is good- why not?
