Also, they do have the fire power, remember in the 2013 edition, it ended up with 5 movistar riders and 1 yellow jersey chris froome in the final week. They have all the fire power but are not on the same level as Sky when it comes to tactics that suite their riders.

Not the same riders as in 2013... and I also think Nairo can not handle the pressure like Valverde could then (who was leader then).. remember in 2013 Nairo had no real pressure on him... it was his first tour.

I reckon that they gave up on GC long ago. And that Wednesday was a last Hail Mary to see if Nairo could at last gain a little time..

Don't think Nairo has got the leadership quality needed whenit is really going badly.. is something off with him..yes it would seem so..could be illness or could be other factors we aren't aware of.

This is all just me thinking out loud btw[emoji6]

From Lampre's Team site:

Louis Meintjes offered a new demonstration of his class, realizing a very good performance in the second time trial of the Tour de France 2016, which was raced with start in Sallanches and arrival in Megève on the distance of 17 km, with 12 of ascent with max degree above the 10%. The summit of the climb was at 2 km to the arrival, form which it was separated by a short and fast descent.

The blue-fuchsia-green climber registered the 9th best time, 1’08” higher than the winning one of Froome.
In order to understand better the significance of this performance, it’s important to point out that Meintjes was the best under 25 rider and that his time in the last sector of  the course was the second best, at 11″ to the one of Froome.

In the general classification, Meintjes shift one position and he’s 9th, at 7’15” to Froome.

This is the comment by the South African rider (photo Bettini): “I’m happy, especialyy because the result was good and because I succeeded in realizing what I had planned with the team staff in view of this stage.

In fact, we prepared the stage in each details, starting from the study of the course which was made by the staff on engineers from Merida, led by Juergen Falke.
Together with Dr Pollastri, team’s doctor and head of performance, and the sports directors Mauduit and Scirea, I programmed the management of the effort during the time trial, deciding to start without pushing too much and finishing at the maximum power.
The bike set too was very important: I pedalled on a Merida Reacto with time trial handlebar and with 40 mm wheels.

Today was a good day for me, I hope there will be other ones from here to the end of the Tour“.

Could it be that NQ is shadow-boxing to get his Olympic Gold in a month's time?

Hey, there are 4 more TdFs before the next Olympics. :whistling:

I am not sure if he would sacrifice the TDF like that... and Movistar sure wouldn't "allow" that..but we will only know in a few week's time hey.

But anything is possible.
