tombeej Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 "The peloton is timed with a deficit of 3.45 with 98km to go" Ja I'm watching the live footage at the moment and I can tell you that it's as if the main peloton is out on a Friday coffee ride. The gap is growing rapidly.
Vetplant Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Ja I'm watching the live footage at the moment and I can tell you that it's as if the main peloton is out on a Friday coffee ride. The gap is growing rapidly. With Greg V.A. in the lead group it seems a bit strange tactically to let it go. What size of lead would Froome or Quintana be happy to chase down in the coming stages? 5 minutes seems substantial already..
HappyMartin Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Strange hey Tombeej. What's up do you think? That's a lot of strong riders no one is worried about up the road.
'Dale Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 12 riders in the lead at km 1.5, including Mark Cavendish, Peter Sagan and Rui Costa.Cav going for points?Chasing the maillot vert ????????
'Dale Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Well, well, well... Interesting race dynamicDon't blink All the GC favourites will also be saving some matches for the weekend's massive pain cave
HappyMartin Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Chasing the maillot vert That group was swallowed up a while back Sagan and co all back in the peleton. Totally new group up the road now.

tombeej Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 It's a big group, with lots of roulers and a few puncheurs. They won't be within an hour of the winners time by the end of 3 weeks. They're really a non-issue for the GC guys, incl. GVA. The first thing of interest is that 3 of the strongest time trialists in the world (Spartacus, Martin & Robocop) are in there. Not something you usually see. And I never really see Robocop in a break - normally the guy Sky looks to, to hold a high temp for Froome until the finale. The fact that he's in the break means that he was told to be in the break. Let's see how Sky's tactics play out here. I can't quite make out what they're up to yet. Of course the main bit of interest for me is the fact that Nibali +1 made it into the break, as I was speculating this morning. Either Nibali is going for personal glory, or they're setting up an attack for Aru at the top of the Col d'Aspin.
'Dale Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 87km remaining from 162kmIt remains to be seen just how long the unity will last in this 29-man leading group, which is already beginning to splinter. Van Avermaet tracks one attack, and now Cancellara has powered off the front on a downhill section with Mate for company.
'Dale Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Stannard sets the tempo in the main peloton for Team Sky, which trails the break by 5:35. Quintana's Movistar guard maintain a watching brief near the front.
'Dale Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 ☔️☔️☔️ After the serene blue skies at the start, clouds are gathering over the break, and thunder showers are forecast by the time they hit the Col d'Aspin later in the afternoon.
'Dale Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 ????????????This is, of course, the first - and, on paper, most benign - installment of a troika of tough stages in the Pyrenees. The race dips a toe into the Circle of Death this afternoon on the Col d'Aspin, before tackling the Tourmalet and Peyresourde en route to Luchon tomorrow. A demanding leg to Andorra Arcalis follows on Sunday...
tombeej Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 The yellow jersey is in the break. Kyrienka too. 22 riders in total. Maybe too big to be effective. I think the strong ones are going to break away as soon as they can. Yip, Cancellara is now trying to break away from the break. Has already got a good gap from this attack. One Cofidis rider has managed to hang on to his wheel. I'm sure a few more of the strongest will try and bridge across now. A good number should be about 6 - 8 riders to be really effective.
HappyMartin Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 From another angle, a lovely blog by Millarhttp://www.cyclingnews.com/blogs/author/robert-millar-blog-winning-in-the-circle-of-death/Nice one. Great read. Have you read In Search Of Robert Millar?
tombeej Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Cancellara is brought back into the fold. But he's sent his message to the others. The whole of the Sky team is now on the front of the chasing peloton and have strung everyone out in one long line. They're bringing the gap down now.
