Strange behaviour on Garmin Fenix (1) - any ideas?

Noticed a while ago that the Garmin Fenix battery 'charges' very quickly ... like in seconds. BF with Fenix2 saw the same 'charging' speed. The watch kept the charge, so it was obviously just the indicator, probably some software issues.

Last Wednesday the battery died on my commute home (from about 95%; the commute is less than an hour). I left it to charge off a wall-plug Saturday night, and on Sunday it died 50 minutes into the ride.

Googled a bit, did a full reset to factory settings. The battery still 'charges' quickly but I now use about 5% battery power per commute.

So the battery issues are solved now

BUT

The unit now has issues finding satellites, and sometimes saves corrupt files.

Yesterday afternoon I waited for 5 minutes, no satellites. Started cycling home, and during the whole 50 minutes of cycling it could not locate a satellite. Other times it would get a GPS, but then lose signal along the way - e.g. down Republic where there are clear skies.

Twice now I've seen the watch go to 7 April 2019 2:00 when I switch the GPS off. Although the files save as 7 April 2019, Garmin Connect pick up that the activities were for today and yesterday.

Software version 5.

BEfore the 'reset to factory settings' the unit was very quick to locate a GPS. Never seen the wrong date before.

Anyone else seen this behaviour?

Any ideas on how to fix it?

I have a problem with my fenix 1 as well.

I let it go flat and didn't use it for about 3 weeks. Probably not the best thing to do. I hooked it up to a wall plug setup to charge and left it over night. When it started charging it turned on and showed the time, one could go through the menus etc.

All excited the next morning, I take it off the dock and it dies. It does leave a single black line across the screen, which I thought odd. I tried turning it on, nothing. Hook it back on the charging dock and it turns on. Battery shows as low but charging. Take it off, turns off with the single black line across the screen but in a different place this time.

This was last week. I still can't turn it back on.

I will be contacting Garmin this week to sort this out though.

Thx V12man.

Navworld couldn't fix the watch, but offered me a Fenix2 for R2000 - I think that was very fair. Will go back there on Saturday to go get it.

Didn't realise how much motivation the watch is; since it broke I just found all sorts of excuses not to cycle / jog / get outside.

Lovely little shop that they have there - they keep the full Thule range and I'll certainly go back there next time when I need something for my bike- or roofrack.
