Same here, started in E and ended up doing 80km. Combined with the heat and the fact that most of the climbing was at the end I was completely knackered.

Lessons learned. Do not get caught up in the chase at the start of a race. Stay calm and follow your instinct, not the group.

Start relaxed, finish strong.

Exactly my same experience as well - also completely knackered at the end, and will take it more easy initially at the 947 MTB

......the discussion part (and replies)......."pitchfork stuff" or "bring the vaseline"??

Specifically related to this part:

"70km E&F batches that did 78km - We are not sure what happened here, but I don't (?????) think it was a marking issues, since batches A to D went on the correct route. I will investigate more, but really suspect that one rider took a wrong turn and everyone followed him. I can comment more after our debrief tomorrow".

No indication on what they are going to do with the 40 a.k.a 36 a.k.a 28 race results. Surely they are not thinking of leaving it as is!?

I am also not sure where people doing the marathon went wrong. I started in A and had no problem following the route markers.

Surely if you follow in the latter groups there should be sufficient wheel tracks showing you the route to follow?

Apparently times are being adjusted for half marathon.

Oi, that's going to be interesting. Do you know which batches and if it will be the whole batch or per individual rider? Maybe they found a way of identifying all the 28km riders? If not, this is not gonna work. Let's see.  :whistling:

Oh, I found some 28km (as seen on Strava  ) riders in the lower batches which I'll report. That "closed" gate was not that closed when batches after C came through.

So there was route issues at there Helder Berg event in the Western cape as well for the marathon and they declared the results null and void and gave them vouchers for the next race. Now in this race it is far worse it was the organizers fault and they don't want to declare the event null and void.

Interesting....

Simple the board pointed left for the marathon, I still double checked like i always do, then there where boards after we turned (probably 10, 20km or boards heading to the finish, but we will never know as they are all the same colour.)

I bet the pointer at the split fell of and someone kindly put it back, just pointing in the wrong direction.  Point is a competent marshal would have solved the problem quickly

Oh wait, under the T&C's it clearly states that you need to have a certificate in spoorsny. Just send the lead bike out and the rest must follow the spoor......even on the tar section.

Here in lies the dilema. Just two of the scenarios that are playing out.

There is no right way of fixing this.

They cannot adjust the whole of A\B\C batches times to say a "winning" time of 1:15-1:20. What about the ABC batchers that actually did the whole 36km, are they getting penalised by 15-20min now?

They cannot leave the times as-is because that affects about 1000+ riders indexes and what about the guy\gal that came in "first" doing the 36km route?

The crux of the matter is you don't know which rider did 28km or 36km. If you can establish 100% what riders did the 28km route you might be able to adjust their finishing times based on their average speed over the 28km route.

Good luck sorting this **** out!

Oh, PoiZoNouZ, I am in the same boat as you. Rode balls to the wall and got a lekke time. Was hoping to get that index down.

This is a tough one but they better make sure that they get it sorted!

I cannot believe that they screwed up so many times this year.

They should scratch this last race and give everyones money back or a voucher for next time if a rider decides so.

The only way that makes sence is to scratch it completely so that it does not effect anyone! As if it never happened!
