Fork measured travel

So I have a X-Fusion Trace set at 140mm.  If I measure the stanchion it's closer to 150mm, but actual travel I get is around 135mm'ish (I deflated the fork and tried to compress it all the way).

Fork was serviced two months ago and it is smooth and stictionless and there are no signs of seal damage (also confirmed during service that seals were perfect).

So is it just an internal top-out bumper that's stopping it from going all the way, and is the slight deviation from advertised travel normal (it not being a marquee brand product and all)?

I had a Fox 32 Evo 140mm which also had 150mm stanchions exposed. That fork only gave up about 110mm of its travel. Stupidly stubborn forks.

The Pike I have now it set at 150mm. Measures about 153? And gives up all 150mm of butter smoothness.

I think it differs from brand to brand.

Chatted to the mech who serviced it and he confirmed it's perfectly fine.  Shim configuration makes it very hard to bottom it out.

So fork operating as it must and shouldn't knock o-ring all the way to crown (which would indicate a harsh bottom out).

All I can say is - your mileage may vary. There's always a bit of variance between claimed and actual figures, both on exposed stanchion length and actual travel. It's quantified on the manufacturers' specs if you can be arsed to dig though all the documentation to find it.

It's very likely that the guy(s) who serviced the fork put too much oil in (the damper) it so it prevents the fork from reaching full travel.

Not on an X-Fusion - it's a cartridge damper with a bladder, so it's almost impossible to overfill.

It is a pretty easy mistake to make on emulsion dampers though.

Cool.

Thx for the info!
