Over 5000kms on the WL and mere paint scratches visible here and there. Cant put my finger on why? Could be rim surface thats less exposed because of increased width, or stronger rim material..?

Well, simply MORE material is the standard reason. Thereafter it's things like at the same pressure, the WL offers more sidewall support which means less rim strikes.

Thx MM, that confirms pretty much dead centre of my two thoughts, and my experience from Race, to White, to Wide...super keen to try the Smoking Guns ????

Hi Guys, can someone please elaborate more on these AC race/wl hubs? Especially on the rear hub engagement, how bad or annoying it is? I currently have the standard syncros xr2.0 rims and they need to be replaced soon. Thanks.

Hi Jannes123, I wouldn't worry too much. There may be a few rare situations when faster engagement could be helpful (eg trial) but I bet that 95% of trial or XCM riders would not even notice this if it was not talked about so much. The hubs are light, reliable and affordable - you rarely get this in one package...

I use AC MTB29 tubeless rims. 21mm internal width. Hub engagement is noticeably slower than the Mavic Crossrocs I used to have and this could be an issue for newbies who tend to slam their pedals forward in low gears. The extra play could create a chain snap opportunity.

However, the rims roll sweetly, enough play to absorb shock but good lateral stiffness, with my 78kg and the hub sound is musical.
