Argus (aka CTCT) 2016 Medical Questionnaire

Managed to get in on Friday and filled in the questionnaire, this after days of trying, calling and emailing the CTCT.

When asked how many years I have been cycling, I put in 1, the very next question was how many years experience in cycling, I put in 11. The questionnaire was quite happy with that, so  no intelligence in the software. Answer to every other medical condition was "No". Took all of 5 minutes. Not sure what they are going to do with my absolutely worthless data.

But as others have mentioned, its expensive to do the race, my cost is around 20k, coming from JHB. And on top of that I have to go through all kinds of crap to ride. Not so sure I will be riding this event in 2017.

I haven no objection to filling in questionnaires especially if these can benefit me or cycling in general. I object to the attitude of the organisers and the inaccessibility of the website. I am paying them, they are not doing me a favour, I am customer and what I got from the CTCT was not customer service, I got bad service, I got attitude. I am not a happy customer. The whole thing could have been handled differently and professionally, it was not.

I have the feeling that somebody ay CTCT is getting a payout from whoever needs the data. And there they are forcing on us regardless of consequences, just like our government.

I answered yes to all medical questions. like do you have high blood pressure, yes, diabetes, yes, heart or blood vessel disease, yes, metabolic disease yes, kidney disease, yes.

So I get a mail on 04/02/2016 suggesting I go for the following tests

"Our records show that you have answered “yes” to the question asking if you suffer from (or have previously suffered from) heart or blood vessel disease, metabolic disease or kidney disease.

We would like to share some important information with you relating to exercising with known heart or blood vessel conditions and/or using heart medication, known metabolic or kidney disease.

Please note that this is not to prevent you from cycling but simply to provide you with guidelines for safe exercise.

Firstly, we would like to congratulate you for taking part in regular exercise, as this is an important component in the treatment of these diseases. However, you need to be aware that if you have known heart or blood vessel disease, you also have an increased risk of developing a serious complication during exercise.

In order to reduce this risk, we suggest the following:

  • That you make an appointment and undergo a full medical evaluation by a qualified medical doctor, for example your GP – to evaluate the heart and blood vessels’ response to exercise (Well done if you have done this already!).
  • This evaluation should include a history of any symptoms, comprehensive physical examination and exercise test where your heart’s response to the activity is monitored with an electrocardiogram (ECG).
  • Your specialist or general practitioner might request other special investigations where indicated.
  • This medical evaluation should be conducted at least once a year or more frequently if you’ve experienced any new symptoms or as requested by your doctor."

With all the things I clicked yes on I should be dead!!! But I can still ride it.
