Really good bike service

Hi guys . So this is a question many people ask , but I'm really looking for a bike shop who provide a really good bike service. I have been to many bike shops and often things aren't done well and you charged for things you didn't ask for (Won't mention names ). I'm riding in the racing categories and big competitions , so if one thing is wrong it really affects my riding. To say the least many bike shops don't provide the full service . To me R600 is a lot of money and I'd like to get some value for it. I'm looking for a good reliable bike shop where attention is paid to detail , down to the brake hoods being correctly spaced apart. Sometimes In SA good service is a dream , so if anyone knows if this type of service is even possible please let me know.

I don't mind paying if the service is good . I'm situated in Meyerton which is far out , but again don't mind traveling if I'm getting good value

I feel your pain and that's why I have been slowly buying tools and learning to do things myself. I have not managed to find a mechanic that gets ALL the little things right. DIY seems the only way

Agreed. I am not mechanically minded and haven't really had a super bad experience when i took my bike for services but the cost is what is the deciding factor.

I too have bought some basic tools and learnt to service my bike myself apart from suspension. Hell, i never bled brakes before as i thought it was too complex and then bought some xts a while back and had to cut the hoses to fit. Googled it, attempted it and bang, brakes bled.

The net has some usefull info and so does the hub. Get stuck, ask the hub and you will get all the answers you need.

Also its rewarding doing it yourself.

Mike from Mikes bikes in Greenside has serviced my bikes for more than 20 years (through a couple of shops before he started his own) - not for free, but worth it if you want a trouble free race - that said I do a lot of my own work too, but Mike looks after my pre race work (even though he is not a spez dealer, I trust him more than any concept store mechanic - they generally only know the concepts....)
