the road race was held in absolootly sweltering conditions - the race was held on an undulating 25 km circuit which included 1 major climb. the peleton was blown apart on the 2nd lap of 6 when a group of 10 riders detached themselves on the drag up to the start /finish. Lights by Linea were in the majority and they took the racing to Ray Cox (CWC) , Ivan Venter (Caja Rural) , Brandon Christians (Alfa Bodyworks), Mathew Merrington (Giant), Ian Lategan (Peugeot). on the 2nd last lap Ivan Venter, Rohan du Plooy (lbl), James Tennent and Brandon Christians were all that were left as the heat started taking affect. on the last climb Venter and du Plooy broke away and maintained the gap on Tennent right up to the finish. 1.du Plooy, 2.Venter,3.Tennent. the first 2 riders are u23's but i'm not sure if the rules allow the winner of the race to take the overall championship ie Elite and u23

If its the same as SAs then yes the winner can. Remember when Daryl broke his chain and they tried to still claim the victory over Louis because Louis was u23 and Daryl elite.

James Tennet is and was crowned as Elite Champ in both the road race and the TT.  Catherine Colyn won the Elite Ladies in a very hard fought race beating off two of the Best Med team mates that managed to get in the break with her. JP Jacobs won the 30 - 34 Road and TT event, Marco Marais from Paarl improved on his silver from last years TT by taking the gold. 40+ TT won by Christo Groenewald with Robby Roddriques winning the road. Vets 45+ the TT was won by Danie Marais and the Road by Marius Nel. All the results are available are available on the Cape Winelands Cycling FB pageThe event was a huge success with in excess of 300 riders participating over the week end. Congratulations to ALL our 2016 Western Cape Road and Time Trail Champions, you guys showed grit and determination in very touch conditions. Thank you to the Winelands EXCO for a great job, Corne Bence and Corne Botha of Western Cape for the help and guidance, Mr William Newman for attending and giving the support required and ALL the riders that participated and the hundreds of spectators that lined the route and finish line and last but not least the volunteers and marshalls how gave there time to make this a huge success.
