Steven Knoetze (sk27) Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Much stiffer rear end, less flex. Tracks a line much better too. Also allows you to use a better quality hub. Those were my reasons anyway.
mtbride Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Can this conversion be done on the 29er Anthem X1 2014? Running Wide Lightnings with the QR setup, which I take it will also need to be converted with some sort of kit

cdevil Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Hi guys, I've got a 2015 Giant Trance 2. Is it possible to convert to rear through axle with the stock Giant Tracker Sport rear hub? I've called around and have been told by some its just different inserts on the hub whilst others say the hubs are not compatible?

So you will need a new rear hub.
Steven Knoetze (sk27) Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 New hub yes, standard one is the old cone and cup arrangement.
Steven Knoetze (sk27) Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Cheap option would be a Novatec, otherwise your wallet would have the final say.I know Wayne at Rapide does a good hub for a reasonable price.Trawl the classifieds, I bought a complete 26inch wheelset and scavenged the hubs. Ended up costing me R100 for a SLX front and Superstar evo rear.
Mawbs Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 finally got my new 12mm axle and hanger kit...test ride tommorow
AdrianDJ Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 finally got my new 12mm axle and hanger kit...test ride tommorowHi Mawbs, what did you end up paying? - if you dont mind me askingĀ
Matchstix Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 I ordered from Giant cape town today. Was R205 for the kit and R675 for the axle
Matchstix Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Nobody has stock of that darn through axle. .
Rich990 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Reviving a thread here.Ā Just did this on my trance, ended up using the shimano axle mentioned on the first page. Wanted the giant / dt Swiss axle, but the shimano one does the job.Ā It was 800 bux from mike's bikes.
