Thanx so much for the positive feedback all, appreciate it, yes it has been on my bucketlist since it started so the motivation is there.

I trained for the ironman 70.3 over the holidays so that is taking a backseat immediately with regards to the swimming and running, luckily its this weekend so then i can focus on longer and rides only, with some leg gym.

The aim is to finish it and enjoy it as much as possible (with some optimism in the enjoy part...)

Looking forward!

The question is: Do you want to do it? Half of the Epic is just mindfarking yourself to the finishline.

If you want to do it, and believe you can do it, 2 months will be enough.

Stop the swimming. Reduce the running. Bump the riding up to 10, then 12 then 14 hour a week. Rest week. From middle Feb, start with shorter weeks but high intensity.  Don't aim for the podium though.

Hardtail is fine. Rule 5.

Enjoy.

Thanx for the tip! Sounds as if youve been there also.

In 2005 I got an entry 3weeks before the start.

I met my partner once before the start and had to rush around buying kit and organizing everything

But after the shock of the 1st two days I had a really enjoyable experience

My riding regime at that time was 3hours of spinning during the week, a two hour road ride on Saturday and a 5 hour Mtb ride on Sunday.

My longest mtb ride had been 90kms and I was (and still am) a poor climber

Sounds exactly like where my training is now, cool good to know. Thanx

Most guys who have a base will be try to peak now and 8weeks of intense intervals with some decent lsd rides will have u ready to do epic. But like most said...make sure the expectations are the same for team.

Day 1 with very wet Knysna forests and then day 2, a 148km marathon into Herbertsdale with no laundry service and dodgy food. Quite a shock to spend more time on the bike in 2 days than any training week. Made day 3 into Riversdale at just on 100km with less than 1,500m climbing seem a walk in the park.

But I dare say the technical stuff these days makes it harder to just wing it like we were able to do back then on small wheels and v-brakes.
