I ran into Bear Grills that gave it a few whacks and it's relatively straight again. Is it safe to ride on this rim? I don't really want to spend money, but also don't want to do a jump and have the wheel go yo-yo on the landing.

Normally when I wheel goes wavy it just needs a true i.e tightening of the spokes which will pull the wheel straight again.

I have what would be considered to be entry level bike, and my wheels have not done that, and I am not afraid of hoofing it over a jump or three. Gorge at Hoogekraal would be an example of what I can hit every now and then. The worst I have done to date is kill a couple hubs and pop a spoke or two, but not in any way or fashion like what you have managed to accomplish.
