Scratched carbon frame- please help

Hi guys and gals,

Over the weekend, when taking my bike off my rack (Thule), I noticed that the actual brackets which hold/support the frame when in use have slightly scuffed my bike frame.

Now I know that some folk will say that it add's character to the bike etc but my point here is to try keep my bike in the best possible nick as possible so that when I decide to upgrade and sell this bike, I can get a good price for it.

Are there any companies out there that can fix the paint job on my bike? It's a 2015 Spez Camber Comp Carbon.

I'm deff gonna get Lizardskins to put on the frame in the places where the bike sits on the rack.

Any other advice would really be appreciated.

Many thanks

question you should ask yourself

would you buy a 2nd bike that has been resprayed or rather visible scratches.

i'd prefer visible scratches than respray especially with carbon(does crack)

Good point,

What about a touch up/high quality polish or something that would make the scratch not look as bad?

I know that with cars they can usually remove some scratches by polishing the clear coat, not sure if the same applies to bikes tho...

From a point of view of cost, do you want to pay R2k for a touch up? I am not sure of the going rates now but I had some stays on a road frame touched up about 3 years ago and it cost R1700...and if not done properly then the question will come when selling it - why was it resprayed?

Personally I would live with the scratch and polish it out with a light burnishing compound and then a wax to fill the scratches and leave it alone - then the buyer can see ok, its been scratched but not too serious...

Also if you do get it touched up and (hopefully you don't) have a warranty claim then they might turn down the claim due to a respray. This goes for all manufacturers BTW...

Often a thick, clear nail varnish fills in scratches quite well and seals them. Also has the advantage of making the carbon shine again. MTCW!
