Good for Nico but just a question: why would they opt to sponsor a vet and not go for younger talent or a local pro that gets some results?

I think it is because the Vets are the target market of Dorma products. And because the vets cat are bigger spenders. And because Nico adds value for Dorma with his skills clinics with Dorma clients.
