Fork problem - How expensive will this be?

Recommended Posts

Hello all...

Some advice will be appreciated!

Please see below pictures of grime/oil/dirt on one of my stanchion(?) arms...

Is this a serious problem?

What would need to be replaced?

Can anyone do this - I don't have a very common fork - White Brothers Magic 80 - any suggestions as to which bike store in the Cape Town area would have a techie who can service/make the repairs without having specific knowledge of the fork?

I have a comprehensive manual downloaded of the web....

Thanks all  Big%20smile

Just wipe it off and the dirt is gone! duh!

Gee thanks TheLegend Tongue

Really hadn't thought of that one - duh!

Seriously though - I really don't like the idea that oil, that should presumably stay on the inside, is now leaking out...

Can't be good, can it?

but, oil is subject to gravity - shouldn't it just run down, back into the fork? I suggest that after every ride you put matches, or something else into the seals so the oil can gain access into the fork inner again - oil is a lubricant, useful! to prevent the sand from coming in tehre you should ride rubber boots to prevent it from sticking to the oil. Voil?, problem solved! Big%20smile

perhaps it's the same as with old cars - my mechanic keeps telling me that it's perfectly normal that my old engine looses oil. just make sure the fork doesn't run dry, refil it from time to time!

(sorry, anything is better than studying Embarrassed. the oil certainly shouldn't be there. any bike shop should be able to help - teh epic bike shop in plumstead is good!)

I once read a fascinating article about people and their behaviour in queues... but thats a conversation for another day...

So - exactly how overpriced is your Reba?

Well, the write such bullsh*t! In the beginning you crack yourself and later you get pissed for marking the same crap answer over and over. But it nice to give a lot of zero's though! It makes adding up much easier 3am in the morning!

I'd love to read that article! The british seem to have a reputation to be "good" quers (standing obidiently and patiently in one line). I witnessed something fun in connection to that: At the British Airways counter at Frankfurt International people were just pushing each other aside, jumping the que and jus tbehaving badly. A cool lady from the airline, wit a lovely british accent commented that with: "You can tell that we are not in England"! LOL

the reba is not too badly overpriced. 2008 modell, used for 2,5 months, disc and canti, for ZAR 37.000.000! (substract 3 zero's of your choice and you have the price!)

remember that you've also been there sometime - clueless, excited and with a spotty ass! I hope all of that is gone now and the students actually put some effort in to keep you entertained with random comments.

what subject are the papers for?

Yes i know i was there myself and even did bad in some! And we all knew the reason.....we didn't study as student life is great! The thing is at the end of the year there will only be 80 left. Its the ones that falling out of varsity thats bad to mark. There's nothing difficult, just basic principles. It is for one of the nutrition subjects, animal science. They are now a lovely 230!
