What bike next

Hi All,

I need some advice, I have a 2010 GT Avalanche 1.0, I am very happy with the bike.

We are looking at buying a new bike for the wife or I get a better bike and pass the GT to my wife. She doesn't mind as she loves my GT

My question is :: What other bikes can I look at that will be an upgrade from the GT, my budget would be around R5000. I don't mind second hand bikes as the GT was 2nd hand and it had no issue for 2 years now.

Silverback Sola's are great value for money and good light frames.

 

I'm afraid R5k isn't much these days as even the entry level Sola is about R10k these days. For R5k you could maybe pick up a 2014 model. I just picked one up (practically brand new) for that price.

Thanks, I would have a look. I looked around and you get some bikes for 5k but I am not sure if they will be better that the GT.

Firstly decide whether you want a 29er 650B or old 26er.

 

I have seen Giant Trance 26ers for around the 5-7K mark. but with a limit of 5K you going to be looking a loooong time to really beat your GT.

 

What spec is your GT???

 

these 5K bike is probably no better than your bike anyway.

 

Save money and look around the 10K mark and buy a nice bike that will satisfy you for longer.

Look that's a good bike. You will probably find about the same bike for R5K.

 

Save your cash and look for a nice bike around the 10k. Completely different ball game and way better bikes in that bracket.

I've got a small Raleigh Namib for sale. Comes with a Raidon Magnesium Fork, Shimano disc brakes, XT derailer. Willing to let it go for +/-R3000 - that way you have R2000 already saved up towards your new bike. PM if you you're interested.

Thanks, I'm going to look at a Schwinn rocket 4 tonight, it still looks brand new for R3200. If we don't take it I will be in contact.
