Yip, the paid me out the money for me to order a new swing arm from USA ...I had to remind them to add the VAT etc as well as they sent the 1st "Agreement of loss letter" without it indicating that costs - although I have mentioned that to them in the email I sent the quote from Intense.

But I am not going to leave it here 'because I got paid out' - this is wrong. Something is cooking and I think getting more cyclists stories together we can all find out what it is

This. Well Done!!

Massive respects.

The thing is. If I have my facts straight Outsurance is part of the First Rand group which includes Dirtscovery.

The reason the direct guys are "cheaper" is because their repudiation rates are higher. Simple.

Nope. Disco is not owned by FRG. First Rand Investments have a 25% shareholding, but that's from an investment perspective and they have nothing to do with the business apart from interest in profitability.

AFAIK discovery insure is underwritten by Hollard, who are one of the biggest underwriters of short term risk in SA. However, the terms and conditions would be Discovery's own, approved by Hollard. (AFAIK)

As for the repudiation... true to an extent but it's mostly due to the terms and conditions being tighter and more scheistery. If the t's & c's are less liberal, the chances of your claim not satisfying the conditions of the policy re that much higher. You simply don't have the cover in certain events.

Agreed fully on the broker part though. Worth their weight in gold.

Not always the case. Outsurance, for example, only use their suppliers for replacement and repairs. They are allowed to since it's covered in the T's & C's.

The difference here is suppliers (plural). From what i can gather from this thread and previosu others relating to Miway, they are using one supplier: Pro Cycles. Guys from Cape Town were shipping their frames up to jhb so Pro Cycles can inspect them. You cannot have only one supplier.

After all this, I have to ask one question. Haleyearth, have you cancelled your policy with Miway and have you moved to another insurer?

I want to get the parts from Intense 1st, and assemble the bike and go ride with it. They had to service my rear shock too and the bottom linkage moves strangely, so I want to see if this is something effected by the whole incident (which will mean the linkage to the area around the BB can be bent too on the front triangle) or if fitting the new bottom linkage from Intense will take this problem away...then I will move.

The broker I deal with with my car etc has all the info they need (bikes details and serial nrs etc) to 'switch my insurance on' with Santam (I am with them for my car etc) - so as soon as my bike is up and running I am gone.
