Hi.I have heard of Beaulieu Kyalami having Mtb challenges however do they have normal trails that one could ride whenever ?I'm not far and would love to ride there if possible.thanks

I used to ride plenty of them, however, being close to Diepsloot, I think they're pretty dangerous. Carte Blanche featured a section I used to ride a lot on my own as a danger area. Make sure there's a few of you around.

Area near Riversands, Helderforntein, Sunvalley is pretty safe. We usually ride in a small group and have not yet had any nasty experiences. There are a number of trails in the area purpose built for the Beaulieu MTB and Trail Run Challenge http://www.bps-mtb.co.za. Keep in mind that it is an equestrian area and that you should slow right down and give a wide berth when passing someone on a horse . If approaching from behind ring your bell and also slow right down when passing. Most of the properties are privately owned and a few of the land owners do not mind if you ride on some of the unfenced properties. Be polite and respectful of each other and the land owners will probably allow you to carry on making use of some of the trails. Support the local coffee shops and you'll be even more welcome. These can be found at Riversands Farm village Market, 137 on Crocus Road near the Lippizaners, Windmill on Main on the corner of Maple Road and Main Road, Inanda Country Base Restaurant on the corner of Maple Road and Rose Road.

Am I missing something here, who has a "bell" on their MTB?

T

Around here in civilization we (especially mtb'ers) use "bells" of whatever sort to warn pedestrians that we are approaching as we generally ride on the side of the road out of traffic's harm...

So yes, some people are retarded enough to use a bell

Wow - strange you ask.

I was riding with mates on Saturday in the area and we intersected some trails near Riversands off Mnandi road which were clearly built and groomed. Some lovely single track there. Then we actually ran into one of the trail builders who offered to show us the routes through Helderfontein and back out to the prison side of things. Added about 10 km to a ride which i wasn't really fir for but that is another story

FRom what I learned the trails were built for the Beaulieu race but are still there. We came in from the MNandi side but I think you could join from around the Dainfern side at the Helderfontein estate or at the shops on the Dainfern/William Nicol intersection. I was going to spend some time looking at Google maps to see where it all went and which way it could be ridden but there are definitely open trails there (for now).

THere are some gates and fences which are closing things off or you may need to ask someone to open something.

You could ride a nice loop via Riversands (back of Diepsloot so courage and friends needed) then intersect the trails at Riversands and back up through Helderfontein - up William Nicol.  Some pavement hopping required. I am in Craigavon so it suits me and that was my plan.

I have uploaded to Strava and Garmin so trails are there....

Sheez. Well obviously not KZN mountain bikers. It's a little more congested here in Jozi.
