Shedding some bike weight

Hi, need some advice on shedding some weight off my PYGA.

I've managed to shed 6kg off my own ass ( still need to drop 5-6more at least) but my current bike build is pulling around 15kg.

Pyga OneTen 29er, medium

X-Fusion Trace

Hope Pro 2 hubs with WTB KOM 23

Continental Mountain kings ( I'm in Ireland)

Race face 740mm low rider bars

Full xt 2x10 drivetrain.

I've a new set of wheels on order for the summer here:

Industry nine hubs

ZTR Creat rims

ONZA Canis tyres.

Next option is a fork change. What suggestions for mixed marathon/trail use?

Any other PYGA riders got lighter builds I might try emmulate?

Post your full bike build for scrutiny.

Shedding weight on a bike can cost a fortune, so be prepared.

Pyga owners will tell you that they weight of a Pyga is irrelevant.

(Having said that, 15kg is quite chunky  )

Pyga owners will also tell you that ZTR Crests have no place on a Pyga.

Look at Gen 3 Arch or Flows, or import some wide Chinese carbon rims to slap on those I9's.

My large OneTen29 comes in at 13.3kg with Reverb Stealth dropper post.

Main components are:

RockShox Revelation 130mm fork

ZTR Arch EX hoops on Hope pro 2 hubs

Full XT 1x11 drivetrain & brakes

Rapide stem & flat handlebar

Rocket Rons Front & Rear

15kg seems a lot...I would also guess it to be closer to 13.5-14kg worst case...

But anycase, when I went through a similar exercise on my XC bike I found I could drop weight by the following:  400gr on lighter wheels, 200gr by using less aggressive tyres, 200gr by switching from a dropper to standard seatpost (not worth it in my opinion, I prefer having a dropper), around 100gr by going to a lighter stem and bar.  All of these without really breaking the bank.  You can perhaps save a bit more but then it becomes really expensive.  In the end I managed to drop about 1kg overall without compromising on strength or paying too much (all relative off course, depends on how much is too much for you).

Hmm - the old maxim applies - weight, strength and price. Pick two. You can have low weight but you will compromise strength and low weight at high strength equals very high price and exotic materials.

Stop focusing on the weight of the bike as just like the above it's possible to drop it but if gets logarithmically more expensive beyond a point (which i think you are at on your build) and you compromise strength.

You can't turn an Enduro machine into an XC machine BTW.

Carbon hoops (ENVE's) will drop lots of weight and are very strong but probably cost as much as your bike as does XTR DI2. Those two will cost you R 70k. But they are light and strong

Run less sealant in the tyres - immediate savings. Get lighter tools. Ride with a smaller Camelbak. Dont take your wallet - only paper money. Get a lighter phone. All will reduce weight. What about your shoes, shorts and helmet and gloves....

Can i suggest you do some more squats in the gym and you will go faster.

Thanks all, yeah the idea is not to make it an XC machine, cos I ain't XC orientated, but just shed some weight for the longer marathon type events where realistic. I used a luggage scale to weigh it so might be less than 15kg but not by much I'll vouch. I reckon the tyres and fork will save me a kg alone so I'll start there. I still need to drop weight myself which is where the biggest gains will come I know.

Thanks

Yeah the wheels tyres and fork seem to be where I can shed most within a realistic price , so I'm on the right track it seems. Keeping the dropper for sure. Aiming to get it into the 13.5kg range I hope.

Thanks
