I'm quite new to cycling (only MTB until I can afford a roady) and wondering if it's nessasary to carry water on your back or will two water bottles do as there seems to be sufficient water tables at the races

Wessel, it firstly depends on how long you are planning to take and always remember that there are always water points on the races...the things is you unfortunately then have to stop.

So officially two bottles should really be fine.

Just remember to rehydrate properly after the race and you'll be fine.

Two bottles more than enough for an average 105km race.

Agreed. on the longest panorama stage i took a 3rd bottle in my jesrey pocket just in case, but didnt even finish my 2nd 600ml bottle

I worked a water table at the 55k MTB race in Malmesbury in March I think. At half way point the guys were filling up bottles and backpacks with water, but I guess that was just a hectic race

Two 500ml bottles is usually more than enough for me for a 100km race. One with Cytomax, and one with plain water.

But like WW says, make sure you drink lots afterwards and re-hydrate property.
