Chain Guide - Can I toss it ? 2015 Trance 2

My Trance 2 came fitted with a 2 pulley  MRP chain guide where the bearings have died and the replacement parts come as a whole kit at over R400 where I only need the pulleys.

The MRP website stocks just the two pulleys at $ 29 before postage.

The bearings have a funny ridge on them so are not available at local bearing suppliers either.

A few times when the chain has dropped out of the guide pulleys the chain runs noisier through the derailleur.

Can I toss out this guide setup and maybe shorten the chain ? Or must I keep it there for a reason.

Just seems a bit expensive as the bearing seals are not very good and have seized up a few times, so I opened the seals, cleaned and re-greased but they are tickets now.

Depends on your rear derailleur. If it's Shimano it will work.

Lol. You're funny.

No, it doesn't depend on whether it's shimano or not.

Yes, you can remove it. It just offers an extra bit of chain retention for extra technical trails. Not absolutely necessary and with a clutch derailleur and front derailleur together with proper chain tension it'll be fine.

dont think mine are bearings on 2014 model ( more like deraileur pulleys ) anyway when i changed my bike to a 1 x 10 i did away with the guide and dont even run with clutch ON deraileur and dont have any problems. but obviously its with a NW chain ring up front..so if you still running normal 2 x then you possibly will drop chain on occasion.

My mate's Spaz just has a nylon type fixed guide that the chain runs over. When my jockey wheels die I'm going to MacGyver something like that. I reckon out of Vesconite.

Maybe I should see if a Derailleur pulley with the bush type will fit over the screw - thanks for the idea

Was always wondering - why is there a clutch on the Rear DR.

Bike salesman couldn't tell me.

Never used it

Did you buy it at Cajees?
