carbon29er Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 It's good to see that work has started on the Constantia to Tokai cycle path with widening of the sidewalk on Kendall to include a cycle lane and signs up at Ladies Mile about NMT improvements. It is great to see and should be completed by summer, I would hope.
splat Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Nice idea, but I hope it's properly executed so that its actually ride able. Not with sign poles and bollards and full of pedestrians etc. That road is a major route for most Southern Suburb training rides. If its not practical, people will just ride on the road as they always have. Especially in groups...

It's quite tragic that the people building the paths have no real world experience of using the infrastructure and therefore add these obstacles to the routes, which cause more issues than finding ways to cycle on the road with more awareness!

I cannot wait for the completion though
Nick Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 That road is a major route for most Southern Suburb training rides. If its not practical, people will just ride on the road as they always have. Especially in groups... I don't think this bike path is being built with packs of MAMILs in mind. Commuters are the target. The bits they've already built will probably just fit two riders aside or one over taking another. I'm interested to see how well they deal with road crossings and intersections. Looking forward to it!
