THABA TRAILS

yafta is 1.1 km I think and not to tech and peels of the green and regions straight back on. Loop b is definitely easier than A . Less climbing easy and not to tech. Would think the most tech part is Barry's point , which is up to right at the top of the twin towers . Those rock faces are the trickiest part of gravity boulders.

Sweet, thanks. Going tomorrow so will give Jafta a go.

if you do Yafta do you exclude another bit or do you end up doing the other part as well? I don't know how else to explain but at one point there was a split and sign said left green, and the right one had a green and blue arrow. I went left and landed up on Yafta. There was another bit where I felt I was there before, and I thought I might have gone the wrong way. That long climb up to Wendells way - is that gone or was that the bit I missed?

Feels longer than actual distance rode.

At one point I thought must have done about 15 by now, check... 8.5 km ..

you can do yafta and miss out nothing . It peels of the green and rejoins almost where it left the green.

The new green you would follow the green and blue until it splits and you just see green one wat blue the other. Did you turn into yafta ? Coz you can just ride straight past it.

Did you go left at Wendell's way ?

I think I turned left into Yafta, next time I'll go right and see what's there. I don't think I got near Wendells way, that why I felt I missed that bit, but I don't know Thaba well enough to be sure, but Bat's explanation makes sense.

cool enjoy ????

Did Yafta today and i sure am unfit. Stalled once or twice as didn't have the power to get up those short climbs but then came that rocky downhill section...awsome, loved that part. Will be sure to add it in everytime now.

I feel a few lunges coming on in the week to strengthen the legs.

nice one, there is couple of short stiff lung busters in there. But all doable. Once you have done it a few more times and know the route ,then you will know what to expect and it will make it easier.

It used to be harder Wendell has cleaned up the climbs

The last part is very sweet, also used to be a lot harder not the paved rocks. But that was a while ago. Glad you enjoyed ,can only make you stronger adding that section in

For sure. Once ive done it a few times then can add in a few more sections.

As a matter of interest, how do you power up those lung busters? Is it better to power through standing or seated on an easy gear?

i very seldom stand maybe only the very last bit. I know they coming so always try drop a few gears and keep momentum. Momentum is key in those stiff short climbs.

Could not always climb them. Just kept at it . It's good strength practice the short leg burners

I also don't have power in my legs ???????????????? at 77 kg and 6 ft . More like a rake ????. But it helps me climb ,so no complaints .

Lol..ok cool. Guess its about practice then and knowing the trail.

Thanks for the tips :-)

sounds like yafta...paved downhill and you turn left on to that part?

If so you were in yafta ,then left back on to green ????

A shout out to Wendell and his guys - thank you for the efforts. I had a ride at thaba yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

I had the opportunity to take 2 mates down the rock slabs from Barry's point for the first time. Both left with big smiles.

Note to self : get fitter.... ride more fun stuff...
