Crossmark tyre - poked or just badly seated?

Found the offending offence on my tyre, there's this bit about 3cm long where air is leaking at the beading/rim, it looks kinda frayed and I can push the frayed bits in with my nail - thoughts on whether the tyre is poked or does it just need to be reseated properly? Not sure if the pics says anything.

It might have a cut just above the bead, something like a snakebite from running it at to low pressure.

I would suggest you look for the biggest patch you can find and try and patch it on the inside.

Ok I'll try patch it. I have a spare from when I changed the front - thought I'd get some expert opinions, before spending time phaffing with a lost cause. :) tx

I have a tyre on the back of my 26er that has the same issue although much smaller.

Was told that it was a lost cause and to throw it away, but being stubborn as I am I plugged it and put some thicker sealant in and I've done many miles with it since.

You can see there is a white circle around the one hole, that one has a patch and you'll see next to the rim, just above it is the plugged one. 7f93e0102a412327324bdd6d4bd0c9a0.jpg

From what I can see I don't have the traditional two holes - I'll use it as practice to see if I can do the plugging thing - see how it goes - gotta get some hands on experience some time :D

Ya, my two holes are from a thorn going through.

As they say, practice makes perfect and I prefer the hands-on approach myself. Good luck with the job at hand. [emoji106]

I also had a snakebite cut close to beading, was with a fairly new continental tyre. Took the tyre off and cleaned it on the inside with some acetone to get rid of all the gunk left by the sealant. Bought one of these tube patch kits just for the thick type of patches and with some superglue patched the tyre. Refitted the tyre with some extra stans fluid and it is now more than a year without any major issues.  Never had a flat during a race or on a long training ride becuase of the patch not holding.
