Always remember the Rouxtjie rule!!!

It's non-negotiable and unlike the Public Protector, the Rouxtjie rule has binding force on new hubbers

It's a reasoning of sorts that long standing members have for doing business online at this site to ensure they are not gonna get scammed. Basically, Rouxtjie is one of the more vocal members who stated that he would only have dealings with members that have more than 1000 posts on this site. Sort of a guarantee that the person is a genuine cycling enthusiast that is less likely to be a conman\woman. It has taken on a life of it's own amongst the community and regularly comes up as a defining statement, often used to take the mickey though too! aka the rouxtjie rule...

Nevertheless, there are many members who will still trade with noobs! Have no fear!

(Edited to make it more obvious...)

Only slightly elitist bud. So if you are new you are a conman? If that is the case then new guys should not sell anything and you and your group are going to be trading amongst yourselves for a while to come. Makes sense! I guess that is what trader feedback is there for.

If you stick around you'll see that the community are quite a bunch of chirpy clowns at the best of times, but amongst the jest there are some principles. No one has illusions of being elitist. You're the one trying to turn this into something more. As a crew of random people who more often than not, actually know each other in the real world, the community keeps a look out for one another. If you're easily offended and like to direct your vent at people on here then it will be challenging for you! You have at least picked the right day of the week to post in the way you have!

Welcome to the Bikehub and to cycling. Best sport ever.

As many have said, Cajees - rather buy watches from them than bikes.

LBS - find a good one close to work or home and support them. They will support you back. (LBS = Local Bike Store)

Size matters - get the right size bike with at least semi decent components. Crap components = crap experience on the bike.

Fix as much of your own stuff as you can. Especially on MTB. That way your learn to understand and appreciate the mechanics of the bike.

Happy Friday!!

Titan bikes are good, make sure you get hydraulic brakes. Think Cajees are right about the sizes they recommended. Shop around for quotes, for R14K you'll be able to pick up two good bikes with hydraulic brakes. The spring shock is fine. The brakes and tires are the two most important things on a bike. Try get tubeless ready tires on your new bikes, some bikes in that price range have them. So you can convert to tubeless without buying new tires.

If you ride a lot then after 2 years you probably would have to replace half the bike components anyway. So start with something that meets the budget and upgrade as you break stuff. Eventually you'll have a strong bike.
