Hi all, as you know very new to mtb and still hunting for a starter bike, what I have decided is that I am going cheap to see if this is the sport for me. So that said I would like your opinions on a 2015 ktm ultra sport 29er. I can get one for R10k and it's been ridden twice. Not sure in the frame size yet (tbh don't even know how to tell the difference there). Does this bike have any reputational issues I need to know about and or any reason to not take the deal (assuming frame size big enough). Once again thanks for any advise

Find out what year model it is and what size. From what I read online they were selling for R13k new so R10k doesnt sound like a great deal to me especially since you can get something like a silverback or merida for a little over R10k new and with better spec.

Ok so its a large frame bike so wont fit anyway, it seems this is a hard sport to get into unless your willing to drop some decent cash upfront.

For R10k there are some new bikes with reasonable components available. If you want to get an inexpensive bike to see if you'll enjoy the sport then look at some of the 2nd hand hardtail deals going here. Might find something reasonable for well under R10k

Thanks guys, but I clock in at 6 foot 4 so about 195cm, went to get measured and apparently I can get on a large frame but xl would be more suitable, went to go look at some Silverbacks today as I have heard they good starter bikes, my wife really liked the splash 1 and I was recorded the Sola 1 from the bike shop in centurion. Also the titan may be an option. Tbh would prefer to buy from the forum as then there some comfort.
