best shoes for winter riding.

once again, your feet can get flippen cold. you can think you have frostbite and polar bears are about to chase you, BUT - you can still be riding.

First thing I did after finishing RASA was order a pair of sealskinz socks. they are flippen good for warmth, but will fill up like a wetsuit bootie in any rain/water crossing. that water will stay there, and get warm, but your feet will look like prunes in a long day. there are ways to cover up water entering in the top at the ankle, not really sure if it's ever going to be foolproof.

overshoes are a good idea, especially for the cold sections in the malutis. BUT, they will get f@#$ed up in any hiking section. these look sort of ok

the other lo-tec option is just to tie a plastic packet over your shoes when it's really cold.

Try neoprene booties especially the more old skool thicker ones they stand up to a beating better in general and something with extra toe protecting. I am hesitating between the old stuff from my cave and some recently acquired endura MT500's and duck tape tread and needle to get em back together if needed.

It's a new, old 2015 ( second hand) bike with a mere 1000 km on the clock used by someone with tekkies, the ideal bike for the Freedom, not a scratch on it yet........

But it's a 29 er and now I  only need to loose some 12 kg to be really race fit.........

To reach the preferred level of fitness required by the Freedom Challenge is a difficult task in dusty winds exceeding 40km/h and temperatures also around 40, I now know quiet well why the Freedom Challenge is held in the winter.

Winter ain't better its cold it rains hard to motivate. At least the 100k/h winds broke the sattellite this so more motivation to get outside. Although quite nice weather predicted for this weekend time for the first long ride?
