Congrats on the new bike!!

I am also in the market for a new bike wanting to get back into MTB and wanted some advice (Didn't want to start a new thread)

I am stuck between a S or a M size frame.

I am 173 64Kg - my last MTB was a S and I enjoyed it but think I was slightly too big for it.

My road bike is a 54 and think its slightly too big and that is considered a "M"

I'm sure this is a rookie dilemma but if you guys have some advice it would be great.

certain makes like titan and merida will be med compared to large in other makes. I went to a person doing bike fitting before i bought mine, got myself measured and he then told me what size to get. I did. Gonna see him tomorrow to do setup. All in all R600. So now i bought a bike according to my size, and funny build. And getting it setup. This is the best thing i have done so far. My inseam is 76 and i need a bike of 17-18". Bit my total lenght and arm length was also measured.

Been a busy day. Got my setup done. Will see how much improved riding comfort would be. Did a tubeless conversion witjfug it( i had a litre left over) on rear tire. Will see how it goes. I had to DIY repair my front shock lock out inner bolt came loose for some reason. Took me a while on google to find out jow to do it but i got it right.

Im sorry i stopped cycling so many years ago. I sjould have kept doing it. Actually i don't know what went on in mu head to do it. Well im glad i started again. To anyone not cycling or wanting to do it. Don't delay go do it even if you must get a cheap one. You will feel better. I used to get up and feel slumped, tired and irritated. Now i feel refreshed, energetic. And ready to take on the world. Tou dont need berocca. You need a bike

Just some input from my side on sizing.

I am 1,74 (and I wish I was 64kg...LOL) - my inseam is 80cm (this is quite important).

Also your "reach" (from saddle to cockpit / handlebar) could make a difference to what size to get. Two people with the same length could have different inseam and reach.

I have a Merida Big Nine in size 19" (48cm) and it fits me perfect.

Did a few "setup settings" at the bike shop (but should go for a decent setup one day).

I have done up to 100km rides on my bike (genuine off-road, not just farm roads) and it did not give me any back / leg / knee problems.

But to make sure, go to any bike shop and they can measure you and make sure you get the correct size.

My road bike size is a 52cm, I once had a 54cm, but had to do a lot of adjustments to the stem length and saddle position. The 52 just fitted like a glove with not a lot of settings or stem length / saddle adjustment issues.

Get yourself measured and get the correct size, especially on a bike, you will either have an awesome experience with the correct size, or have bad neck / knee / back pains with the incorrect size and give up cycling all together. Good luck and enjoy!

Hi Cassie1975

Thank you so much for your advice-

I'll take your and "Theunissa" advice and head to my local bike shop for a fitting.

I've gone on a few 100Km road rides and I do start getting a sore lower back- assume its from stretching for my bars.

Hope the bike shop tells me I'm being a softie and that a 54" is actually the right size for me. Not really in the position to replace my road bike and buy a new MTB,

Giving up cycling is not an option. :excl:

Thanks again guys
