Interesting concept this junk miles.... I must say I have been thinking about it a lot lately and in my very humble opinion there is no such thing...  an I hasten to add I am no doctor or psychologist or anything like that.

The concept of varying tempo and training sessions is sound though, but every mile run or cycled or swim has a positive effect on the body and psychology (unless one is overtraining). Another aspect for me personally is that in my youth I played competitive squash at a level which broke my ankles and knees so i have to be careful of the intensity of sessions when running.

if i look at the training programs of the old school guys vs the new training programs they are fairly varied but the results on the battle field are fairly consistent and even more so when taking new age tech in bikes and shoes into consideration. While times obviously vary due to conditions a picture can be found in Kona as an example. Training regimes seem to have very little effect.

Agreed, there is always a positive effect (even for my few pockets of stored energy) when training. However, I do believe that training suffers from diminishing returns. I have read some papers that suggest only 1 hour per day of activity is optimal for living a healthy and long life. I am by no means speaking from any sort of experience, but from what I have read, and from the ethos of my training program, I try hit a sweet spot. Like you have said in a few earlier posts, this is a sport of sacrifice. I am very aware of that, and am trying to keep my social and family life somewhat active while training enough to get a decent base.

I'll let you know how my approach to my training has fared in a year and two days.  :w00t:

in that regard I agree, IM training is over the top and I would say probably not healthy for a person like myself or anyone else for that matter.

Well done all. It's an amazing event an amazing feeling finishing. Congratzzzzz

Also applied aN got the 9000 points from vitality. Amazing watching the little dial go round an round haha.

Vitality gave me 100 points for my effort. 14:28. My HR monitor failed during the swim as only Garmin can do and then the battery ran out 20min from the end too. Anyway they said I should apply for the event points which I am still waiting for 7days and counting.

If you filled in claiming for points for events via the vitality website and sent them a copy of your finishers certificate as well as a link to the results page you should get the 9000 points.

Took them 4 days to process mine

Took them less than 24 hours to process mine. I was impressed.
