Oh my gawd.

This is going to be one cracker of a build!

I saw the Colnago on Anton's Instagram feed and promptly choked on my coffee. It's a masterpiece.

Would love to see the final build, keep us posted as a matter of priority, sir.

There have been a few builds like this one of Cippo (and mine).

Basically, you take a very good, but early, Colnago carbon frame(from the early 2000s) before carbon frames went all weirdly shaped . In other words, a classic looking frame with lugged carbon tubes. The C40, C50 and Extreme Power frames all have sharp performance, give a super ride, and are able to race and keep up. The C40 (like mine) is the most compliant. The Extreme Power like Cippos' one is the sprinter. The C50 is somewhere in between.

Then you give it a classic paint job, from the 1980s vintage era. And from that time, Saronni stands out as the classic of the classics. If my memory serves me right, then it is the paint job Colnago gave him when he won the World Championship.

You build it with the best Campagnolo groupset ever (10 speed) and modern wheels, stem, bars etc. and you have a bike that has that classic look but can go like a bat out of hell! Or just ride it for fun and turn some heads at the coffee shop?

Campagnolo spoken here.

why not a campagnolo chain? how do these KMC compare re price, performance and lifespan

btw.  Ridley had the same type of paint scheme in the pro peleton not too long ago

Cheapest I could find a Record chain online was close to R800. The KMC is the Superlight version and I paid less than R500 brand new. I have a gold one as well for my Master (another build for another time). Only time will tell if it works as well as Record. If not I will buy Record again. Friend of mine is running KMC with his Super Record and no issues so far. Many world tour teams run KMC as standard equipment.

Ha ha, yes, I know what you are thinking, My build will have Zipp stem and bars, and it will be the only non Italian bits. I thought about painting over the Z logos, but decided to first try it and see how they look. I bought it for the great shape of the bars.

Nothing wrong with Zipp or Enve at all. It's that Shimano stuff that shouldn't be allowed. Strangely enough you will never see a Campagnolo free hub for Shimano wheels. If you wanna have Campy quality wheels for your Shimano parts then buy Fulcrum wheels.

What part are you waiting for?

Kevin (who used to work for BMC but now does engineering work) has to machine the seatpost shim we talked about earlier. I found that he could do it for less than importing one.

And of course, just 15 minutes ago I saw EvanB selling a 28 mm seatpost in the Classifieds.

The joys of timing!

I'm trying to source a Colnago SP31 matte black seat post and the Colnago Nemesis stem. I have a Fizik stem and sourcing a Fizik seatpost is no problem. Fizik however does not make a semi aero bar.

Small update: Saddle, seatpost and bars have arrived, thankfully all Italian. I managed to score some really porn worthy  carbon cages. Still missing are brake calipers, Ergo levers (notice I didn't say STi's ) front and rear derailleurs. Hopefully by Friday I will order them. It's been quite daunting comparing prices online and converting currencies to see who has the best deals. The only issue now is what will Black Friday bring.

What bottle cages?

I'm still searching for something that will work well and look good. Found a single original Colnago one for almost a thousand bucks. No thanks, my stingy genes will cause a riot!

You will have to wait like everyone else.
