Is there a condensed version?

This is basically what it is :

I had heard about these

alley cat races. They are different from a professional bike races because they

are designed to simulate the specific problems that messengers encounter on

a regular basis. I had heard of races that involved elevators, jelly doughnuts,

stairs, oversized boxes, shots of vodka -- anything these untamed minds could come

up with. Alley cats are both demanding and dangerous as most of them involve

intense speed and are directed through busy streets, where unsuspecting traffic

is, to us, just another obstacle.

hm, ok???????

alleycats are common in all the countries with proper bicycle

messengers (us&can, europe, aus). i've competed in a couple and

think it's hell. cause u lkiterally race through a, in most cases,

strange city in the dark. u have to complete certain tasks at chepoints

and deliver stuff. you pulse is high, you are high on adrenalin cause

you ride through traffic in the darknes (most cases u don't have lights

on you), you have to watch out for the police, jump red lights and

criss cross the city with steps up to the pavement, poles and chains

hanging in your way. and then, if you are totally nut you are riding on

a track bike with fixed gears and no brake!

it only feels cool afterwards at the party :-)
