Does anyone know of any designated cycle routes (MTB) around the Theewaterskloof dam area?

I'm there for the weekend and would like to do a ride Saturday morning but i don't want to become a rogue rider by just venturing onto a farmers land in get into trouble. Not familiar with the area. Any contact person/s?

Thanx

nope, no official mtb routes that i know of (unless you count Groenlandberg - which is then a cape nature permit from nuweberg and not exactly a sunday stroll)

But some options depending on what you want to do.

There is a loose trail/fire access around the dam that TSC/(yacht club) is the custodian of, it's not open without permission so please don't ride it as tempting as it sounds as you'll go past lots of farmers and dogs.

If you want to do some views, then you can always head into the high noon, elandskloof, helderstroom, smuts pass or doornrivier but it will involve some tar sections too.

I'm a club member, and we really should get some sort of trail network going there!

I'd like to avoid the tar roads as much as possible, but if i have no other choice then so be it. Definitely don't want to upset farmers and seriously don't want to be chased by dogs, although it might make for some pretty interesting sprint intervals

If you just want to get of the black stuff you can go ride the Van der Stel pass to Botrivier, or Greyton. Just a nice gravel road.
