I find it particularly stupid, and you know for me that must be an extreme level not just the usual level stupid, that they will not accommodate disc brakes on road bikes at these sort of events. I'm willing to give them my cash, bring some mates along and even be the only person who wants to talk to Andy. But no, two different guys at the local organisers have said no, no disc brakes allowed.  I take the double negative as illiterate, not yes as in ja, nee.

So my anticipated road trip for a funride with a difference is off.

Good luck on filling the event with an attitude like that.

How do I contact these people? After this weekend my Revs are high and I am looking to pick a fight. Absolute crap. If they stop me and ONE MTB is allowed they will have to shorten the route for a protestor again....

After I sent a mail similar to my post, the local head of the race phoned me to say he would allow me to ride on disc brakes.

Maybe mail him to get the same dispensation.

He was genuinely concerned about what I had to say.

From Wynand at Cycle Events - Discs allowed for everyone- - -

Hi Team,

Due to safety on the roads and rehabilitation on the route of the pot holes, and more importantly to riders safety, we as the organisers have agreed as follows:

“ Disc brakes will be allowed”

This is also due to the fact that some riders have chosen to ride on bigger wheeled bikes due to the midlands terrain. Also, as this is a neutral start, this will not provide an added advantage as initially suggested.

Kindly update comms, accordingly.

Thank you,

You have got to love the Hub! Firstly Gen motivated me to enter and then the manne sort out my fights before they even started. Now to get some training in - my wife is doing her 10th Two Oceans and my training is just not priority at the moment.

So is it time for me to start asking things like.. what tyres are best etc.. I am using a full compact setup to get my fat arse up and over the climbs.. but of course you guys know that I don't know much about the skinny wheels so any advice will he welcomed.

I assume the race chip will be given to me at number pickup as I paid extra for it when I entered. And where do I put said chip.

Been treating yourself again doc?

You know us Ortho's arent very clever. I only know a few drugs and none of them will be any treat to use.

Definitely go for the widest tyres your frame will accept. 28C soaks up vibrations and gives a good contact patch for braking (including wet weather). Chip normally comes with a little bracket that mounts to your front QR. I tie my chip around my ankle with a velcro band.

Compact is good. Many Pro's feel that most of us should be on compacts.

Aaah okay thx for that. I'll have to look what my bike can take and see what the widest tyre is that I can fit onto them.

I think I currently have 25c on atm.
