What is the PPA doing?

I thought we wanted the PPA to host more road races? That way more riding in controlled safer environment?

Remember they dumped a lot of cash on the stay wider of the rider campaign.

I dont think we even know what we want. We are about as fickle as my toddler and his toys.

How do we all get around to the training bit if all we look out to participate in the races???

To add,

you have a number of less fortunate cyclists who really can’t afford the race entries as it stand thus utilise the roads for some bike pleasure

I think that there is a huge disconnect in terms with how PPA & National Road Safety should working together

We refer to the past campaigns, but have yet to see those promoted via the Driving Schools, Drivers Theory classes etc.

There is minimal driver education happening in ref to cyclists safety

Just an idea,

Why not arrange road shows to schools with individuals visiting & going through a basic cyclist / pedestrian awareness programmes?

I’m sure that many Hubbers will gladly offer an hour of their time as assist in facilitation (PPA to define & provide training)

We look at the end without starting at the beginning…

The number of children/ teens cycling today has increased exponentially in this country yet the only thing they have learnt is to ride a bicycle (said respectfully)

In order for them to be vigilant on the roads, they will need education in this regard. We do all learn via WiFi…

I can assure you, preach to the kids & the parents will hear you.

As it is, they determine quite a bit of what family do on a day to day basis

So PPA,

I would request that you put on those “Thinking Lids” & find a way to engage your target audience of your future!

Fantastic idea!! Edit: Seems like an idea that they are implementing.

Fantastic idea!!

And if you did some research and read some replies you'll see the PPA already started with that! Talking about awareness at schools. And they want to go national. Safe cycling won't just happen. It will take time and yes, awareness and learning is part of that.

It's weird patches, on the other seyffret thread you said the guys only commenting here on the hub and not in real life are cowards, but that's exactly what you've been doing? Have you tried to phone them to ask instead of getting angry with us? Did you get more details from them on what they are doing?

I have read the entire thread, and done a fair bit of research, I would think that by now I wouldn't need to disclose this type of thing. I know that they are doing a similar thing, I was trying to give a fellow hubber positive reinforcement for making a positive contribution instead of the usual fault find/ argument. It wasn't a dig at PPA, it was a pat on the back for a fellow hubber....

Yes, I have been engaging with several people off the Hub about cycling safety on various platforms. That's my business and my prerogative, if something good comes of it, I will let you know.

If you read my post again, you will note two thing.

1. I don't attack the PPA, that's not my intention here. So as I have requested several times, let's not pretend that.

2. I have said on various occasions that I engaged here to specifically to get the Hubs input.

So please don't compare my intentions here with those of twitter trolls on dopers and please don't confuse my frustration with certain people's behavior here as something untoward the PPA.

At the Desert Dash, I walked up to Seyffert, introduced myself and had a long conversation with him about doping in cycling. Of course I would do the same thing here.

If it was just about getting them to answer me, I wouldn't have bothered posted anything here. Again, I specifically posted on the Hub to start conversations around it. I'm not sure why that's hard to understand.

You said great idea, but fail to mention it has already been done? Did you know about their schools project?

Sorry if I misunderstand you. It just kind of feels you are not really listening. But it seems it's only my perception.

Like many have said, and I agree, you make good points and ask good questions.

Edit: Ok patches, I want to help. We want more detail regarding exactly what the PPA is doing for safe cycling over the last few years and split per project and cost? Should we hubbers as one draw up a letter to request the information? I think it would be better going to them as one front instead of each one on their own. What do you think?

Edited my post to include the portion that you feel I left out.

I am listening, but what is being said? What part am I missing? All I want to know is what can WE get ourself stuck into to help. Critising the PPA and CSA from our arm chairs will accomplish nothing, BUT getting behind their plans and helping them make it better will make a huge difference! Me personally on my own getting onboard will again make little difference, but if WE as hubber get behind it, boom! Hence the discussion here.

I am passionate about cycling safety, more so than doping, I have been scared of riding on the roads the last few week and have been doing loop of my neighbourhood, or driving to the cradle or driving to SBR it's pathetic!!

So if I come across as combative, that's on me, but please don't see that as me picking fights, I don't have the energy for that!

I think we are on the same page. See my edited part on my previous post. What do you think? Or am I missing something? I want to be part of the solution!

Ok I will start to write a letter and post it here on the hub tomorrow evening. And if you guys are happy then I will send it to the PPA and then request a face-to-face meeting with them.

In the "How do we stop the carnage thread" (I think) I specifically said that unity is key.

Yes, a collective letter to the various bodies, listing our intentions to help, requests for info, regular engagements etc is a great start.

Re school visits

I have no idea how many schools exist in Western Cape or South Africa. But it is thousands.

From my understanding PPA does not even visit one, yes one, a week. And it's a bit about safety and teaching kids about bicycles and riding them. But it does not form part of Safe Cycling, it falls under development.

To claim the schools is a major project is a bit disingenuous.

From the PPA

CATCH SUPERCYCLING TONIGHT

Our CEO, Robert, will be interviewed on SuperCycling tonight! Catch him on SuperSport 8 from 19h00-20h00. And more good news: We understand the 2016 Enjoy One Tonner will also be aired tonight on the same show, with repeats later in the week.

I watched this with such excitement, I was so sure that he would make mention of the road deaths...... more than disappointed.
