Thx for the coke tip, I have a few rusty parts ill give a bath this weekend.....

Pleasure. Apparently petrol works wonders as well. Stubborn rust apparently Lemon juice and Salt paste works well to... Found that the coke works well on light rust of chrome parts.

The retro bike thread has info on "shining" chrome parts with alu foil to finish them off. Worked a treat on my Red bike' fork and stays.

Been working on the seat post. Opted for a matte black instead of a glossy black. On the suggestion of another Hubber I went with "Rust-Oleum Ultra Cover 2X Flat Black" spray paint. Its a 2 in 1 Paint and Primer with anti-rust formula.

Also been working on the handle bar. Opted for the same matte black I used on the seat post.

Had a lekker laugh now! I was the same... Bike hung in the garage for months after my old man gave it to me. It's actually exciting once you start!

Hope this thread inspires other Hubbers to tackle a project like this. Very rewarding so far. Could also be a fun father-son project.

I was hoping to start this as a father/son restoration project and then maybe even ride it afterwards with him.

The problem is making the time not to start the project, but to finish it

Bud, it's inspired me to get you to do my Lejeune Dirtbuster when I find one. That's the bike I came to school with when we were in Std6....
