Hi Gents

Been off the radar a bit. Work and studies taking up all my free time. Been weeks since I last worked on her. Think I got stuck with polishing the cranks.

Besides its winter, who like freezing his balls off in the garage! :P

Will posted soonest... awe

Well there is your problem, you should not be using your balls to polish the crank. Tuck them back in your pants and get a little wire wool :P

how is the project coming along?

Any updates?

nice work...

(my fingers are cramping just looking at the pics)

Thanks gents! First time on TheHub in weeks...

Winter and work obligations has slowed down progress... Would rather be out riding in my free time! With longer days coming up I'm going to continue tackling this...

I did start working on the cranks. Will post something soon.

Started working on the old lady again.

Had to get the LBS to remove the cranks with some of their experience tricks, as they were proper stuck. Did not get a shot of anything before, but the black chain rings were rusted orange and the BB, well that was fubar with rust and got chucked...

Left the cranks in Coca Cola for a day, then I used salt and lemon juice as a rubbing compound. Did not turn out to bad. Some steel wool will get the remaining tough stains out, then they are ready for tape and paint!

Been toying with the idea of a frame respray, but I decided I'm going to first give the old paint work some attention and see how it comes out after some polish

Before:

After (Not done, first attempt)

Surprised how much shine I got from a single polish! The frame held up really well over the years to rust and I like the "old school" look to it, so I'm going to leave it as is. Maybe just get a paint shop to mix me a small touch up for the little chips here and there.

Really stoked ;)

Time to paint the chainrings! Pitty that some older generation cranks did not allow the chainrings to detach; its a complete unit hence taping the cranks...

While that was drying, I might as well start working on the shifters.

A LOT of degreaser and Q20 later... they got loose enough to actually service properly. After a proper clean, some grease was in order.

Polishing the cranks next once the paint is dry enough.

Looking good so far.[emoji108]

I procured a Giant Rincon frame a while back aswell, unfortunately it was almost completely stripped.

Only frame, fork , handlebar and stem, with the fork seized in the compressed position.

Don't know what I'm gonna do with it yet, dont think I'll go to all the trouble of trying to restore it though.
