Afternoon riders in Benoni

I am looking for any riders in the Benoni area who happen to ride in groups in the afternoon.

 

I am not much of a morning cyclist due to work and also because I am also not much of an early bird. I do most of my riding in the afternoon. I wanted to know if there were any riders/groups I could ride with?

 

There is safety in numbers, and I do a lot of my riding on my own, sometimes I really don't feel safe. I also find it hard to motivate myself to riding on my own. Sometimes grinding out the miles or even hammering out the intervals are so much easier when you know there are people to talk who are suffering with you.

I honestly have not seen many groups riding so I tend to lone wolf it from Boksburg to Benoni to Kempton and back. Also getting home sometimes late means IDT sessions are very frequent for me.

 

What level of groups are you looking for and what distances do you want to do? What is your typical route like now?

I'd consider myself a high level rider. (sub 2:40 at cycle 4 cancer) but I suffered an ITB injury so my fitness took a knock.

 

I ride both MTB and Road.

 

My road route typically takes me around the East Rand area. Farramere to Atlas Road, North Rand Road back to Ryanfield , along ebotsi. My ride is normally a 60km a day affair. But if someone I can ride with has their own/better route I really don't mind.

 

My MTB rides normally take me behind Curro Serengeti, behind the chicken farm by the new Eastlands estate. And then down along the rail road. Back along the Bapsfontein road back to Benoni and home. Typically a 50-55km ride.

I've seen some MTB groups riding a little later. Can anyone confirm?

I know the guys at Finish Line Cycles used to do afternoon rides. Its not too far from you. But I ma not sure if they still do or what times/distance and so on.

Chat to some of the bike shops in the area (Pro Cycles, Bicycle Line ), they should be aware.

On a Sat or Sun afternoon I like doing a 2h30 MTB ride from Atlasville to the Finishline circuit (cnr Monument and High st), 2 or 3 laps and back.

Also check with Tour de Frans and the Fit-shack bunch, I know they have early morning groups, they are bound to have afternoon groups as well.
