Keen to hear from the Hubbers who did the race yesterday. Did it for the first time and found it tough as nails! Climbing never seemed to stop! Cramping badly from about 60km so it became a very long day in the saddle!

So I did this race to see if it is an alternative to K2C...

Is it?

Well sort of.

Distance and elevation is comparable to K2C...winning time this year was 3:09! Damn!

What I did not like is that the race start apparently got moved making the Berg 100 actually the Berg 96...but that I can live with.

2200m elevation? Not so much. More like 1750.

Care has to be taken with animals and vehicles en route. There was plenty.

Prize giving was I think three hours after the winners already came in...and it was moerse hot out there.

Flip side: the elderly folk manning the water tables were very friendly and extremely helpful filling water bottles.

The refreshments at the finish was lekker.

I think the event could do with a more festive vibe at the finish perhaps?

I enjoyed the ride but the start is too late and the finish was terrible! Trying to negotiate the finish which was poorly marked and having to swerve between cars was idiotic. Very dangerous and poorly executed finish.

It was a fantastic race, and I will be back next year for the reverse direction route.  Water tables were unbelievable feasts, and the folk manning the tables just wonderful.

As far as the riding is concerned, its a bit of a cheat - dirt roadie heaven!  But still, a nice distance to keep you busy for a few hours in a beautiful setting.

Agree with comment above about the finish.  The private road into the farm which hosted the finish was shared with cars, and I narrowly missed being knocked down by some spectacularly dangerous driving - a woman in a landcruiser decided to blixem down the road and try to overtake another car pushing me into the drainage ditch.  Managed to stay upright and gave her window a friendly love tap which she seemed to think was impolite!
