  1. i laughed out loud, and I don't know why. This post makes absolutely no sense! Keep it strange peep
  2. I don't agree with you about discs. The advent of ABS breaks enabled cars to go much faster because they could stop better/faster and the principle surely applies to cycling as well. If you know you can apply your brakes later and have better stopping power/control you will be able to descend faster
  3. i was wondering when this would rear its head!
  4. "who have no business riding the epic" - lots of judgerigteid around today, yoh
  5. That's a bit bitter and smacks of sour grapes, no? And so what if people have this view - surely its a good thing to have a goal and achieving it without others pi$$ing all over it? If I were ever insane enough to try run and actually finish comrades you'd hear about it from the freaking rooftops!
  6. nou verstaan ek - thanks and thanks
  7. "reads Mtbiker404 post count" oh, young padawan!
  8. my friend doesnt understand this graph, can you help him? Is this showing DNFs?
  9. quite sad, really, but thats what bitcoin trading and crossfit will do to you - rots the brain!
  10. I was supporting riders in Noordhoek this year, at the base of Chappies and heard such a ridiculous story from the marshals. Apparently there was a chap on an e-bike pushing riders up some of the climbs to book faster times. They flagged him because it seemed like there was some sort of arrangement where he would come back to a specific spot and meet riders who I guess must have prearranged this. Sounds like he did a bunch of trips for several riders. Not sure of what the outcome was, but they were certainly looking for him
  11. Harley looks like the goodest boy! BUT... we need to discuss that saddle bag. Yoh. hurts my eyes
  12. I live in the shadow of CP and also heard this group of @sshole motorcyclists come thumping through at breakneck speed - I have asked for the footage from our NW LPR cameras, so lets see. Those bikes were redline revving coming into the first righthand corner from the Noordhoek side. Maybe @117 should tell his tchommies not to treat Chappies as a race track, hmm? All his posts have a DISTINCT absence of comment about how fast they were riding. Tell your friends that I have been in contact with Andre Nel, CoCT head of traffic services as well as JP Smith and will be going through the LPR footage. I am sure your friends are law abiding citizens and all have plates, right?
  13. check out the comments section - not much love for cyclists: https://x.com/adrianranson/statuhttps://x.com/adrianranson/status/1759209935777243458?s=20s/1759209935777243458?s=20
  14. from what i could hear (did not see) a bunch of superbikes went racing over chappies on sat morning. There is an escalating trend of groups of bikes and cars treating this road like a race track. I often hear them bombing over and have been caught up in a few. Ferrari groups, BMW groups, superbiker groups - it seems there is a thing lately to get together with the boets and drive like kamakazis. Add to this the weekend warrior TDF wannabees riding abreast and you have a recipe for disaster
  15. you see now, kanniiemeerie, that is very lovely and obviously i need it
  16. i never saw these, do you have some examples? I was a complete Eagle disciple/junkie when it came out. I bought one in germany long before they came here and windgatted up and down the spruit like a brass knob - good times!
  17. I wonder about this and personally doubt there is any merit in developing a 14 sprocket cassette. Its unlikely that the additional gears are going to be on the small gears, getting down to a 10 tooth gear given the diameter of the axle is a finite limitation as far as my uneducated brain is concerned and I dont think a 9 or 8 tooth is physically possible, but i may be wrong. So then what? Bigger and bigger granny gears to allow for bigger front chain rings? Maybe? This will create some weird pedaling gear ration though, and the whole cassette will need to be redesigned to create reasonably sensible incremental pedaling ratios. Cycling tech development never seems to hit the law of diminishing returns, so who actually knows? 1x12 was the front derailleur killer and I wonder if 12 discreet gear ratios enough? What kind of riding would seriously benefit from 1 or 2 more? All I do know is that there will be a whole bunch of okes heading off to buy whatever next version of this crack cocaine they come up with, and probably me included. I need bike rehab.
  18. Cool your jets, young padawan, for you have much still to learn
  19. any thoughts on Ravemen lights? https://www.ravemen.com/front-lights.html
  20. A HUUUGE thank you to all who commented here, this has been hellova useful. I have learnt way more than my google searches which just overwhelmed with info that was overwhelming and not that useful TIPTOP hubbers, BUY a DONKEY
  21. Some hubber knowledge would be appreciated - What is an acceptable lumen rating for both a front light and back light for riding in full son to be seen by oncoming as well as rear-approaching cars? I have been looking around at various light options and am getting a bit overwhelmed. I have no desire to ride in the dark, so illuminating the road or trail is not important to me. I do, however want lights (front and back) that are sufficiently bright during the day to be seen from a fair distance, say 100/200 meters away. What lumen count should i be looking at, and is it different from front (white) light vs a red back light? I am trying to minimise size and bulk without compromising safety. thanks
  22. it really does erode confidence, doesn't it?
