Cedar to Pecanwood MTB trail

Hi Bike Hubbers.

Super keen to do a ride out to my folks at at Pecanwood. I've found a few GPX files of routes there and around Hartees, however these seem to switch on to road a fair amount. Will be starting from Chartwell and would like to follow a route (mostly off road) as I will be riding alone.

If anyone has done such a route and happy to share, it will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Brian

You want to ride alone, I would rather do it with someone. Too many accidents, etc on that very busy stretch of roads. With so much private land there, I think you'll struggle to get there off road, even along the D/S/R roads. Good luck in finding a route, it would probably be an awesome ride!

I cant seem to upload ,  pm your details and i will email

three stages

1) BA to chicken pie well traveled and good riding

2) Chicken pie to Nakita a hard overgrown slog 10 to 50m meters alongside of road

3) Nakita to Pecanwood , some district road and joins up near brew house to normal pecanwood koppie ride that comes out behind  pecanwood spar at oberon after concrete strips downhill.

We did a small detour behind Nikita trying to find a route through that just added climbing and  mileage and ended up coming back and going left

1& 3 are lekker riding 2 is a slog,  maybe a detour through renosterspruit can address this.

You can ride it almost 100% offroad.  I'll write it up for you when I get a moment :).

Safety has been an issue at times - Never had any issues but I wouldn't usually ride this alone.

So

1. BA to Chicken Pie you should be able to figure out?

2. From Chicken Pie follow the dirt behind the restaurant through the dip (parallel to the tar), and round the dog leg left. look for singletrack on your right.

3. Follow that singletrack generally NNW. it takes you up past 2 small dams and then through an area that used to be used by the off road bikers, but nowadays is pretty quiet. You'll pass a cemetary, and an abandoned water reservoir. Also some sublime singletrack along the old river bed. Look for wooden crosses up on the next hill - you're now aiming for those, and there is a rideable route all the way up the hill. Keep going - you're aiming to go over the pass to the west of Kalkheuwel (stay away from Kalkheuwel - no one like mtb'ers in their back garden). The track is generally open, and the descent down the back of the ridge is on a well worn jeep track. I have no gpx of this track, but rode it regularly up until about 3 years ago. (There used to be cut singletrack all the way down this hill too, but this was abandoned due to the proximity of a number of fossil excavations going on up here. Also look for the old lead mines and turn-of-the-century mining roads on the way down)

4. You will eventually reach the satellite tracking station road. either take a left and look for the Skeerpoort pass turnoff after about 3k's, or go right and head towards the Swiss Inn restaurant.

5. If you've gone over Skeerpoort you can either find your way on to the van Gaalens tracks (please make a plan to pay Eric at some point), or you could stick to the dirt. you should be able to find your way from here

Have fun :)
